my favourite breakfast smoothie recipe

As mentioned in my previous new year, new start post, I wanted to start having a healthier breakfast to start the day and came up with the idea of having health shot smoothies. I have actually managed to stick to this resolution so far (-go me!) and have been trying out several recipes over the past few weeks.

I love a good smoothie but I tend to stick to your typical strawberry and banana one BUT recently I have been delving into other fruits and veg.

I’m not an expert on all things healthy however I have started watching Liezl Jayne on YouTube and she provides lots of healthy recipe ideas not only for smoothies but for snacks, lunches, dinners and full breakfasts. She also provides info on the benefits of using certain ingredients in your recipes which helps you pick and choose what ones would best suit you and your needs.

I have taken inspiration from some of the ingredients Liezl Jayne uses in some of her smoothies to concoct my staple breakfast smoothie. So without further ado the smoothie I have been having every single morning before work and uni is .....*drumroll please*..... banana, avocado and spinach, topped with milk and a pinch of cinnamon and also turmeric.

This combination of ingredients creates a vibrant green smoothie in colour and is not too sweet however still sweet enough for the mornings.

I use one whole medium banana, about a quarter to half an avocado, and a handful of spinach. I also pop in a quarter of a teaspoon of cinnamon powder as well as a quarter of a teaspoon of turmeric powder. I top it up with a small amount of skimmed milk (although any kind of milk/non-dairy alternative will do the trick) to make it less thick and also adds to the creaminess. If you wanted it more on the sweet side then I would suggest either popping some honey or sweetener into the blender as well.

The banana and avocado help to make the smoothie creamy, as well as the avocado adding some healthy fats to help keep me fuller for longer throughout the morning. I add the spinach because it is a super-food (along with the avocado) and is also filled with antioxidants. I have heard good things about turmeric and how it is good for digestion, as well as preventing bloating so I put that in there for good measure- but only a small amount as it is very strong in taste. The cinnamon is added mostly for flavour.

I blend this smoothie the night before and pop it in the fridge overnight so I only have to pour it into a glass the next morning- it’s such a time saver and also ensures that I get a proper healthy breakfast every morning. I have had this for breakfast everyday for the past three weeks and so far I am loving it!

Please let me know if you try this smoothie recipe or if you know of any other good breakfast smoothie recipes that I can try out by leaving a comment below or contacting me on my social media accounts linked!

Bye for now!
