new year, new start

Now the festivities are over, after an action packed Christmas with the family, I have been debating to myself whether the start of a new year is simply an empty time construct created by humanity in order to put the past firmly behind us, or whether it can actually be symbolic for change and allow us a clean slate.

At the start of 2018, I am finding that I am feeling a multitude of feelings, both nervous for the coming year as I will be graduating and hoping to start my career (-whatever that may be), as well as inspired to better myself, indulging into self care.

As is every other person's New Years resolution, I want to start a health kick- mostly by clean eating. My biggest downfall is breakfast, lunch, and snacking, as I find I have little time in my schedule to create an easy and fast alternative to my 7am pain au chocolate in the morning and my Sainsbury's meal deal for lunch. One of my resolutions is to at least provide myself with a vitamin packed breakfast to keep me going until lunch time, and I came up with the solution that I am going to prepare a health shot smoothie the night before- things like turmeric smoothies and all that good stuff with spices and lemon juice. I tested out a turmeric banana smoothie with ginger today (bar a few ingredients I didn't have) and myself and my boyfriend gave it a big thumbs up- you can find the recipe here.

As well as taking care of my insides by eating cleaner, I also want to take care of my skin more. I fancy indulging into more of a skin routine, using oils and facemasks more, instead of simply cleansing and moisturising. My logic in this is that it will make me feel fancy and therefore I will feel better and more confident in myself. Along with this I want to take more baths with bath bombs, and bath oils- again, to make my feel fancy.

I have started a list on my phone of all my resolutions so that I can refer to them whenever I want to remind myself of my goals, but ultimately they all revolve around bettering myself in one way or another. Whether that be to floss everyday, or to exercise, or to visit a destination that is on my ever growing bucket list- 2018 is about feeling fulfilled, accomplished and content with who I am as a person.
